Biographical / Historical
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a sisterhood of college-educated women who are committed to public service, with a primary focus on sustaining the growth and development of the African American community. The sorority was originally founded on January 13, 1913 at Howard University. Their Five Point Programmatic Thrust includes: Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Political Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health. Davidson's Upsilon Mu Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered March 27, 2011 by Raven Hoskins, Rachel Means, Leah Davis, Erika Bell, Kaneisha Gaston, Aria Halliday, Rayna McKenzie, Chloe Woodington, Melodie Mendez, Margaret Ramseur, Tamara Munroe, Marissa Ghant, Victoria Jackson, Natasha Rivera, and Ashley Crawford. This was the second historically black sorority on campus aftter Alpha Kappa Alpha, which was established in 2008 (RG 6/14.126).
