Scope and Contents

This collection contains e-mail correspondence within the Just Peace organization as well as mentions of the organization in print media and advertisements for events sponsored by Just Peace. The collection also contains printouts from an online discussion hosted on the college's serverm, a copy of "Shifting the Debate: Musings By Adovcates of Peace at Davidson College (2003) and a cd recording of a telephone interview with Anthony Shadid, the Islamic affairs correspondent for the Washington Post (2005). Shadid was in Baghdad at the time of the interview. There is also a publication that presents statistics and articles regarding the human cost of war, located in oversize storage.

Biographical / Historical

"Peace Teach-In" was founded in 2002 by Biology professor Dr. Malcolm Campbell as a voice of opposition to potential war in Iraq, a military offensive eventually launched in the spring of 2003. Through discussions and activism, this group seeks to promote its understanding of peace and social justice. After the war in Iraq began, th organization changed its name to "Just Peace" and expanded its activism beyond the war to areas such as civil rights and race relations.
