Scope and Contents

The collections consists of a scrapbook entitled "DAVIDSON COLLEGE HISTORY." The scrapbook has been disassembled and divided into two folders. One folder contains written documents and copies of articles about Davidson College. The documents include the committee report on the land for Davidson College (1835), a draft of a resolution for the establishmen of a Manual Labor College, a statement "Prominent Features of the Manual Labor School within the Bound of Concord Presbytery, a tuition receipt (1837) for William Hall Johnston and Hugh B. Johnston, an endowment pledge form (1845), and a petition to form a student military company (1853). The articles are from the student newspaper, The Davidsonian. The second folder contains photographs of faculty, students and buildings at Davidson College. Included in the collection are photographs of President Blake, the faculty in 1873, the freshman class of 1874, the class of 1876, the interior and exterior of Phi Hall, interiors of fraternity meeting rooms, the North Carolina Medical School building, and Lake Wiley.
