Biographical / Historical
The Davidson Public Library Campaign Committee was responsible for raising funds in support of the town library. In 1991, the Public Library of Charlotte Mecklenburg County (PLCMC) proposed to replace the branch libraries in Davidson, Huntersville, and Cornelius with a regional library. The citizens of Davidson held meetings, gathered petitions, and wrote letters in support of maintaining a local library. Their efforts persuaded the County Library Board to reconsider. The town then entered into a partnership with the Library Board and Davidson College to build a new library facility on the town green. The Davidson Campaign Committee was charged with raising $110,000 for furnishings for the library. The committee succeeded in raising $236,000 and a second committee was established to supervise the endowment created through the excess funds.
