Biographical / Historical

Lee Solomon Torrence was born into slavery on March 1, 1857 in Davidson, NC. He was sold to the Torrence family and later employed by J. R. Withers of Davidson delivering lumber. He became a member of what is now Davidson Presbyterian Church. He helped build the church and served as a deacon. Lee and his wife, Margaret Davidson Torrence, had nine children, many of whom lived in the Davidson area and were active in town affairs. One of their great-grandsons, Garfield Carr, served on the Davidson Town Council from 1985 to 2005. The collection consists of a 5 page typescript with family information and photographs. The family history provides biographical information on Lee Torrence and lists of his children and grandchildren.
