Scope and Contents

The collection consists of an original printed copy and a photocopy of the sermon Wallace preached in the Davidson College Chapel on 26 October 1845. The sermon was entitled "Diligence and Perseverance" and was published at the request of a student committee comprised of John W. McRae (class of 1846), Samuel Z. Williamson (Class of 1846) and Richard H. Johnston (class of 1849).

Biographical / Historical

James Albert Wallace was born in Cabarrus County, North Carolin on 28 February 1810. After studying theology privately, he was ordained a Presbyterian minister in 1845. During his career, he served in Oxford, Mississippi, Kingstree, South Carolina, Dalton, Georgia, and in several churches in Alabama. He married Mary J. Flagler on May 31, 1849 and died in Arbor Vitae, Alabama on September 8, 1880.
