Biography

Randall Kincaid was born in Quincy, Florida on March 11, 1940. After graduating first in his class from Quincy High School, he attended Wofford College. He earned an MA and PhD in economics at Duke University, where he was a Woodrow Wilson Fellow and an Earnhart Fellow. He moved to Davidson in 1967. He taught economics at Davidson College and Queens University and was instrumental in the launch of the Queens Executive MBA program. For eighteen years, he was an elected commissioner of the Town of Davidson. From 1997 until his retirement in 2007, he was mayor of the Town, spearheading initiatives on affordable housing and smart growth. Dr. Kincaid passed away on March 11, 2023 in Davidson, North Carolina.

Interview of Dr. Alexander J. McKelway by John P. Scherer (Class of 1989) as part of his senior project for the history department. McKelway describes the Vietnam War issue on Davidson’s campus through the late 1960s and early 1970s. McKelway discusses student-faculty relations, activism, the fraternity issue, civil rights, Spencer’s presidency, faculty oaths, conscientious objectors, and compulsory ROTC.
