The Yowl began after the demise of The Chameleon. The first issue was published in November of 1930 and cost only 35 cents. Published by Davidson College, but staffed with students, The Yowl was a humorous magazine filled with satire, cartoons, jokes, humorous stories, anecdotes, poetry, songs, and skits created by the student body. The last issue of The Yowl was published in May 1936. Under pressure from the faculty of the college, The Yowl lost its name and ceased its promotion of strictly comical subjects, but most of the editors remained to write for the Scripts and Pranks. The current Davidsonian has a section titled "The Yowl," which is named for the original Yowl but is not related.
