The Chameleon began in 1926 as an effort by students to change the image of the Davidson College Magazine [RG 10/2.16], a student-run literary magazine. The editors did not want the Magazine to fall into the trap of having too many semi-professional writers from outside the college, and so they changed the name to the Chameleon and made it a strictly student publication. The Chameleon, in competition with Quips & Cranks and the Davidsonian, eventually ceased production in 1930.
