Creator

Biographical / Historical

Davidson College Crew was created in 1990 by Frank Crawley, who acquired the first shell (boat) from the University of North Carolina Charlotte crew. Two students, Josh Peklo and Jay Hinton, both from the Class of 1997, took over crew afterwards. Hinton brought experience to the program, while Peklo brought leadership as the first president. Since the beginning of club crew, the organization has continually expanded, receiving many donations from alumni and parents, as well as money from the Activities Tax Council (ATC), so that it could build its fleet of shells, purchase a launch and motor, and build the boathouse and floating dock, which are located at the Lake Campus. Davidson College Crew continually is organized and managed by students, who schedule the events, regattas, practices and fundraisers, and who recruit rowers, coaches, and donors.
