Jessica Bogo founded the Davidson Mock Trial Association in 1999 as the only academic team on campus. This organization travels around the country to compete against other schools' teams in presenting arguments for the prosecution and the defense in given legal case issues. Davidson first sent a team to the National Tournament in 2002, and has done so each year since. In 2005, Davidson placed 7th in the nation at the National Championship Tournament. This was the first time a Davidson team attended the NCT. The team was assisted by local lawyer George Guise. Davidson belongs to the South Atlantic region. Out of 20 total regions, the South Atlantic region is one of the most competitive. Davidson competes against schools such as Duke, Furman, Liberty, Wofford, UNC, and USC. In 2005, Davidson beat 29 other teams to win 1st place in the regional tournament. In 2006, Davidson qualified a team to the Silver Nationals held at the Stetson University College College of Law in Florida.
