Scope and Contents

The collection contains a detailed history of the chapter, compiled by Bill Carroll (D.C. 1990). There are minutes from 1890-1955. Some minutes from 1921-1955 are oversize and are housed separately. Correspondence dates from 1918-1993. There is information about the early members of the group, as well as information from 1952, and there are lists of members from the 1988 rechartering efforts. The 1987 Petition runs to over 90 pages with information abou the history and future goals of the chapter as well as copies of letters of support. The printed material contains general information about the group, plus invitations and programs from parties. The memorabilia contains certificates awarded to the society and its members. The oversize contains items published by the chapter in 1942, 1948 and 1949.

Biographical / Historical

The Delta chapter of Kappa Sigma fraternity was established at Davidson College in 1890. In 1971, due to the newly-established self-selection system, the chapter's charter was revoked. In the 1980s a group attemped to revive interest in the fraternity, and in 1988 the chapter was re-chartered.
