In 1990 a group of students began lobbying for a chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, a traditionally African-American fraternity, to be established at Davidson College. An historically black Greek organization, Alpha Phi Alpha was founded in 1906 at Cornell University. In 1992 the fraternity approved the petition, but withdrew its offer due to a lack of student interest. Renewed interest a decade later resulted in the Tau Omicron Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity being chartered at Davidson College on November 9, 2003. The first attempt to establish a chapter at Davidson College was in the early 1990s but was unsuccessful. Charter members of the chapter are Jason Scott, Frankie T. Jones, Brandon Zeilger, Dario Roque, Nathan Cox, Kevin Saunders, McKinley Glover, and Eric Vincent Benjamin.
