Scope and Contents

The collection consists of administrative files from the Vice President's office which include annual reports from divisions, committee files, planning files for orientation and hall counselor training, and files on student organizations and programs. The file on the 1984 Presidential search contains photographs of the announcement of the selection of Dr. John Kuykendall. Audiotapes of the 1994 Baccalaureate Ceremony and the 1984 announcement and acceptance speech of Dr. Kuykendall from the Dean's Office are housed with the AV collection. There are Martin Luther King, Jr. Day posters in Oversize. The collection also contains copies of the Rules and Regulations for the Students as issued by the Dean of Students Office. In addition, information on the Freshman Parent's Day from 1953 to 1970 is available as well as the Faculty-Freshman Field Day in 1968. The Pub/Coffeehouse Committee file contains the final report of the Social Culture Task Force and minutes for one of the committee's meetings.

Biographical / Historical

The Vice-President for Student Life and Dean of Students is responsible for overseeing the offices of Residence Life, Career Services, Counseling Center and Student Health Facility, Chaplain, and College Union. The office is responsible for Freshman Orientation, Parent's Weekend and the Hall Counselors for freshman and sophomore dormitories. The Dean also serves as a liaison for ODK and is active with the Watson Fellowships, the Council on Campus Life and Religion, and the Student Conduct Council. In 1997, the Dean of Students Office took over planning the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration.
