Scope and Contents
This collection deals primarily with the activities of the Facilities Planning Committee. Projects planned and reviewed by the committee include the Computer Services Center (renamed Information Technology Services), a new college union, the Visual Arts Center, a new Life Sciences building (Baker-Watts complex/ Watson Building), renovation of classroom space, and proposals for Music and Theatre. There are also files on fundraising campaigns and grant proposals. The Union Planning, 1993-1994" folders contain minutes of the Union Planning Committee. The Report to Trustees May 1993 contains overhead transparencies of maps of campus. The "Facilities Planning - Memos and Reports, 1995" contain use reports for rooms in union and gallery. The folders "Space Planning, 1987-1988" and "Space Committee, 1987-1988" have considerable overlap in documenting the activities of the space allocation committee. "College Life Studies, 1992-1993" includes surveys and reports from other colleges."

Biographical / Historical
The position of Executive Assistant to the President was created in 1991 to provide support for the Office of the President, particularly in the area of facilities planning. Previously, there had been Assistants to the President and Administrative Interns assisting with day to day activities. The job was reconfigured to work closely with Institutional Research and the first Executive Assistant was John Kelton, who also served as Director of Institutional Research.
