Biographical / Historical
In 1921 the Philanthropic Society decided to separate into two groups, the Philanthropic Society and the Metrophilian Society, as a way of promoting interest in the literary societies. The success of the Metrophilian Society was shortlived, however, and it soon merged back with the Philanthropic Society.
