Scope and Contents

The collection contains a copy of the original charter and bylaws of the group. There is information about the Gryphon Society, including a copy of the constitution and minutes of early meetings, 1911-1920. There are minutes of Omicron Delta Kappa from 1921-1969. There is a small amount of correspondence from 1927 and from 1959-1969 and 1983-1990. There is membership information, including lists of members, lists of members who were involved in World War II, and membership certificates and initiation cards from 1959-1975. There are copies of membership manuals, which include guidelines for membership in the society, as well as a copy of the official ceremony rituals. There are treasurer's records from 1947-1951 which contain basic financial information. There is also printed material, including publication of the group and general information about its activities. In addition, the collection contains a copy of the Silver Anniversary Brochure which outlines the history of Omicron Delta Kappa. The collection also contains two copies of the Spirit of the Wildcat, which was edited by ODK. In oversize storage, there is the 1927 display of the history of the X-ray, as created and presented by ODK.

Biographical / Historical

The Gryphon Society was founded at Davidson College in 1911. In 1917 it merged with the fraternity of Omicron Delta Kappa. The group still exists today and recognizes student leadership and scholarship.
