Scope and Contents

The administrative and general publicity records include materials created for athletic offices and posters. The coupon book is an example of the tickets given to Davidson students in the 1940s. The Wildcat Jet Set folder has promotion materials for a college-sponsored trip to West Virginia and New York. The 1977 publications include an invitation and an admissions style recruiting handout for athletes. The NCAA Division 1 Decision is a FAQ style document explaining the college's decision to move to Division I sports and its effect on the football program. Media Guides are housed in Record Group 8/2.2; Summer program publicity in RG 8/2.3 and newsletters in RG 8/2.4. The College Archives also has a collection of game programs for football homecoming games in the Davidsoniana Room. There are also scrapbooks of publicity for the basketball team in the Athletic Foundation records.

The Sports Information Office is responsible for issuing news releases about all sports teams for local, regional, and national publications; editing and publishing media guides, game programs, and promotional materials for sports activities; providing information for conference and NCAA reports, contributing to Davidson College publication; and responding to information requests about Davidson College athletics teams, coaches, and players.
