The collection is organized in the following series: 1) Biographical; 2) Correspondence; 3) Manuscripts; 4) Sketches; 5) Photographs; 6) Printed Material; 7) Memorabilia; 8) Estate; 9) Oversize. The collection contains little biographical information. There are certificates from Gordon's confirmation and from his involvement in the Kappa Alpha fraternity. For more information, see his alumni file (1942). There is correspondence with his mother while he was a student at Davidson College, correspondence regarding a cachet he designed for the Post Office for National Air Mail week, and correspondence about a series of commemorative stamps issued by the government of the Phillipines. The collection also contains papers Horton wrote while at Davidson, as well as numerous sketch books. There are numerous photographs of him as a child and adult, of his mother, and of their homes and other buildings, including the Horton Gallery. There are also many photographic negatives. There is printed material about the homes of Gordon Horton, as well as a scrapbook and newspaper articles he saved. The memorabilia includes a baby book, a funeral registry for Gordon Horton, and a book containing financial records (1871-1872). In addition, there is Horton's currency collection and a gift box that belonged to Mrs. Horton, as well as a collection of papers from her Bible. Estate information includes photographs of the artwork, art objects and furniture owned by Davidson College. There is an oversize folder which contains Gordon's Davidson College diploma as well as a charcoal sketch of Gordon and printed material about family members.
