The collection is organized into the following series: 1) Biographical Materials; 2) Correspondence; 3) Literary Materials; 4) Genealogical Materials; 5) Printed Materials; 6) Photographs; 7) Financial Materials; 8) Cookbook; 9) Scrapbook Materials. The Biographical Material includes Martin's last will and testament, as well as information about his family, including information about his wife and descendants. [For additional information about his father, Col. William J. Martin, see DC026.] There is correspondence which discusses his father, Davidson College and his role as president, his election to the position of moderator of the General Assembly, the establishment of a Presbyterian Junior College, and recommendations. There are addresses, including his speech given after the burning of Old Chambers and the dedication speech for New Chambers. There are copies of his doctoral dissertation "A Platinum Ore Analysis." There is information about the Martin family genealogy, including correspondence with family members and original notes. There is printed material about Davidson College and his role as president, including information about Woodrow Wilson's visit in 1916. There are newspaper articles about the Martin Science Building and the President's House. There is also printed information about the General Assembly Training School. There are photographs of Dr. Martin and his family, photographs of Woodrow Wilson during his visit to the campus, and pictures of the President's House before its restoration. There is a notebook containing financial information, a cookbook which probably belonged to Dr. Martin's wife, and a scrapbook which was made by Dr. Martin's wife. The oversize material contains one diploma which belonged to Dr. Martin and two diplomas belonging to his family.
