Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The collection consists of a set of confederate bonds, confederate bills, and 3 documents. The bonds are large sheets with a certificate forConfederate States of American Loan" at the top and rows of tickets at the bottom The tickets have been signed and some have been cut away. The bonds are for $1,000 (issued1863 to be paid 1868), $500 (issued 1862, to be paid 1881), $100 (issued 1863, to be paid 1868), and $50 (issued 1861, to be paid 1881). The bills are in denominations of $2, $5, $10, and $20 all issued out of Richmond except on $2 bill from North Carolina. The documents include a signed affidavit by William Ruddock swearing support to the US Constitution and to all laws regarding the emancipation of slaves, 9 September 1865, witnessed by H. P. Helper; a Electoral ticket for Jefferson Davis; and handwritten receipt for the sale of slaves Ruth and George by James Lee Sloan 13 January 1860.
