Scope and Contents
The collection consists of Chamber's graduation oration "The Teacher as the Hope of the Country" and a letter written in 1920 about the history of the college in relation to the Chambers family and the bequest of Maxwell Chambers to the college.

Biographical / Historical
Joseph L. Chambers was graduated from Davidson College in 1873. After graduation, he served as principal of an Academy in Greensboro, North Carolina, local editor of the Charlotte Observer and worked for Liddell and Company in Charlotte.
