The collection consists of a manuscript letter written in 1853 from Fairley to H. Bruner Griffin discussing their friendship and Fairley's entering Davidson College. In addition, there is a typescript of the letter with an added note on Fairley by his son W.M. Fairley.

David Fairley was a member of the Davidson Class of 1856. He also attended Columbia Theological Seminary and served as a pastor at the Church of the Covenant in Manchester, North Carolina.
