Scope and Contents

The collection consists of 3 letters. Two of the letters were written in 1856 by Fleming to his uncle, J. Harvey Greenlee, and discuss college life. The third letter was written by A. M. Erwin to report Fleming's death. In addition to the manuscript letters, the collection contains typescripts of the letters.

Biographical / Historical

John Alexander Fleming was a member of the Davidson College class of 1859. He enlisted in the 1st (Bethel) North Carolina Regiment and later served in the 49th N.C.T. He died at Petersburg, Virginia in 1864.
