Scope and Contents
The collection consists of Correspondence, 1930-1968, Literary materials 1834-1937, Humanities, 1962-1975, Printed Materials, 1920-1977. The correspondence is primarily from Davidson College president Walter Lingle about McGeachy's appointment to the college faculty. There is also a postcard to McGeachy from fellow professor Charles Eberhart The literary materials include McGeachy's valedictory address and papers written in graduate school. The Humanities materials include annotated syllabi, notes on lectures, copies of lectures, and copies of reviews and examinations. The printed materials includes certificates and programs.

Biographical / Historical
John Alexander McGeachy was born in 1911 and attended Davidson College graduating in 1934. He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and was also a member of the YMCA cabinet. He earned an MA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Ph.D from the University of Chicago. He taught history at Davidson College from 1938 to 1977, except for three years in the Army signal intelligence corps during World War II.
