The collection consists of legal and financial materials, a student notebook, and family history files. The legal materials (1862-1883) include a will and a certificate of character for Valentine Stirewalt. The financial materials (1853-1878) include store receipts and a register of boarders at Catawba Springs. The student notebook (1842-1843) is Valentine Stirewalt's mathematics exercises. The family history is a photocopy of genealogical and family ancedotal information for several generations of the Stirewalt family. It includes some reminiscences of the Civil War years.
