The collection consists of two essays: "Literary Attractions of the Bible" and "Philosophy of the Ages," receipts and a fund-raising appeal for the Philanthropic Society (1847-1848), attendance and grade reports (1846-1847), and Davidson College commencement programs for 1848 and 1849.

Biographical / Historical

James Franklin Houston was graduated from Davidson College in 1848. He was a farmer in Mt. Mourne, North Carolina. He married Mary Adeline Patterson in 1853 and died in 1858.
