The collection consists of correspondence (1859-1930 and printed materials (1912-1928). The correspondence includes letters written while he was a student at Davidson and a letter written in 1930 describing his student days. The printed material includes an article written by Stringfellow on his student days and an article from the Charlotte Observer about Stringfellow.

Biographical / Historical

John James Stringfellow was graduated from Davidson College in 1860. He attended the University of South Carolina and became a pharmacist. He served in the Confederate Army and was wounded during the war. He returned to Chester, South Carolina and operated a drug store for 40 years.
