Scope and Contents

The collection consists of court documents with Alexander's signature, general court documents (oaths and receipts), contracts and receipts handled by Barry, and tax receipts signed by Barry. The Oversize material is a deed between Richard Stevenson and John Stevenson. The bulk of the collection dates from 1799 to 1812.

Biographical / Historical

Isaac Alexander was Clerk of the Court for Mecklenburg County in 1802. Richard Barry was sheriff and tax assessor. The papers relate to property values and tax assessments on Mecklenburg County. The collection is named after Frank Sample, a descendant of Isaac Alexander, and Richard Barry.
