Scope and Contents
The collection consists of corrrespondence. The letters from 1847 to 1857 discuss family life. The letters from 1956 to 1981 were written to Dr. Chalmers Davidson about the family history and property. Typescripts for some of the early letters have been added to the collection

Biographical / Historical
The Sparrow Family lived in Davidson. Their house was on North Main Street. The small brick house/summer kitchen on their original property remains a part of the Davidson campus (near Belk dormitory). Patrick Sparrow was one of the original faculty members of Davidson College. He taught Latin and Greek from 1837 to 1840. His brother, Thomas, owned a store in Davidson and was active in the Presbyterian church.
