Scope and Contents

The collection contains grade reports from the Davidson Academy and Bethel Academy, a letter to a teacher at the Davidson Graded School, Annual Reports of the Ada Jenkins School, correspondence from former students recalling school years including a sketch of the Davidson High School building, a copy of the 1947-48 Davidson School yearbook, a flyer for Miss Lucy Jurney's School, a photocoypy of the 1882 school subscriber list, Programs for school events, and a copy of the graded school law establishing public schools in Davidson. There is also an oversize photocopy of an Ada Jenkins School student body photograph taken in the early 1940s and layout pages from the Davidson High School class of 1949. The College Archives also has copies of student newspapers from area school in the Local History Collection.

Biographical / Historical

The Davidson Academy, Bethel Academy, Davidson Graded School, and Ada Jenkins School were schools in the Davidson, North Carolina area. The Davidson Academy and Bethel Academy were private schools. The Graded School and Ada Jenkins school were public schools. Prior to desegration, Ada Jenkins was the black school.
