Scope and Contents

The collection contains correspondence, manuscripts, research material, printed material, and photographs relevant to her research about Peter Stuart Ney. The correspondence includes letters about her research and publication thereof. There are two manuscripts, "The Two Graves of Marshal Ney" and "Ney's Attempt to Escape." The research material includes photostats and typescripts of original documents. The Printed Material- Articles contains the following published by Quynn: French Libraries and American Readers (1953), La Liquidation d'une Legende: La Survivance de Ney en Amerique (1972), Bartigs' Lost Newspaper (1961). Printed Material - Marshal Ney contains photocopies and originals of articles in French and English about the Ney. The photographs are of prints of Marshal Ney and of P.S. Ney's gravesite.

Biographical / Historical

Dorothy Mackay Quynn was born in San Francisco in 1899. She was graduated from the University of California with an AB in 1918 and an MA in 1919. She received a Docteur de l'Universite de Paris in 1923. She was on the faculty of Mills College 1923-1926, West Virginia University 1926-1930, Duke University 1930-1947, Goucher College 1947-1948, and Maryland 1948-1949. She has published numerous articles, many co-authored by her husband William Rogers Quynn.
