Sallie Stirewalt Paisley was born in 1857 and grew up in Catawba Springs and Statesville, North Carolina. Her father, Valentine Stirewalt, managed several businesses. Her brother, Bynum Stirewalt attended Davidson College, graduating in 1894. She married Porter Paisley, Davidson College class of 1880 in 1883. The wedding was held in the Philanthropic Hall on the Davidson campus. Porter Paisley was a tutor at the college from 1880 to 1884 and began studies at Union Theological Seminary in 1886. He died in 1888. Sallie returned to Davidson and managed a boarding house on North Main Street. In the 1920s her boarding house was closely associated with the Kappa Alpha fraternity. She was choir director and organist for the Presbyterian Church. She also had several real estate investments. She died in 1935.
