Scope and Contents
This scrapbook contains a list of the college yells from 1910, a description of Campbell's first impressions as a freshman at Davidson College, a description of his freshman room, a listing of some of the college songs, a description of Campbell's first year of vacation, a description of the debates of the Philanthropic Society in which Campbell participated, a listing of members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and a listing of student expenses from 1908 and 1909. There also are three loose leaf papers that contain a "pledge" signed by W.H.R. Campbell, A. W. Bulter and James Allan, Jr. which outlined how the boys wanted to live -- i.e., no alcohol "except in necessity", only 3 smokes a day, lights out at 10:15pm, no food in between meals except for fruit, etc. The pledge is signed Spetember 1909l.

William Henry Ruffner Campbell was born in 1889 in Asheville, N.C. He graduated from Davidson College in 1910 and eventually became a lawyer in the Asheville, N.C. region.
