Scope and Contents

The collection consists of a copy of the founding ordinance, minutes and related records for the period 1979 to 1988. There are printed minutes and handwritten notes, copies of resolutions, and newspaper clippings. During this time the committee worked with the Davidson Community Development Club to address issues related to housing, the community center, and plans for Griffith Street.

Biographical / Historical

In 1973, the town of Davidson passed an ordinance to establish the "Mayor's Committee on Community Relations." This committee consisted of five members and its responsibilities were to "anticipate, consider and deal with social problems within the community, including but not limited to open housing, fair employment and public accomodations." The committee has had periods of activity as well as periods of inactivity.

Accession 2004-85. Materials gathered by committee member Juluis Melton and given to Common Ground chair Brenda Tapia. Tapia donated the records to the archives.
