Scope and Contents
The collection consists of a announcements and catalogs including a flyer soliciting charter subscriptions for the magazine "Briarpatch," a letter from Moreland Hogan to Chalmers Davidson following Mrs. Hogan's death, and copies of Briarpatch publications. The magazine issues contain excerpts from letters written by Mrs. Drury Lacy 1856-1859, poetry by Gill Holland and Tony Abbot, short tales by Moreland Hogan as well as pieces by other regional writers. Briarpatch Press was owned and managed by Moreland and Priscilla Hogan. Based in Davidson, NC, the small press issued books of poetry by reigional writers, a bimonthly magazine, and published Mary Beaty's History of Davidson College.
