Scope and Contents

The collection consists of letters, Davidson memorabilia and photographs. There are also 4 cds with scanned documents relating to the Keeslers and Pratts. These documents include family correspondence, photographs, and documents relating to their education at several institutions. The original letters are primarily invitations to join Davidson College organizations. The memorabilia includes tickets, programs and a Gryphon Society Fraternity pin for S.R. Keesler, Jr dated 1917. The original photographs are of sports teams and campus buildings. There is also a photograph of Honoria Moomaw, who was the Quips and Cranks sponsor in 1930.

Biographical / Historical

Samuel Reeves Keesler, Jr. and his brother William Parish Keesler were both members of the class of 1917. Samuel died while serving in World War I; Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi is named for him. William also served in World War I and became a businessman, principally with the Staple Cotton Cooperative Association. He died in 1979. Their sister Ella Fountain married Lanier Pratt (Davidson class of 1934) in 1938. Pratt became a teacher and was an Assistant Dean of Students at Duke University. Pratt died in 1956 at the age of 44.
