Scope and Contents

Louise Martin and Frances Chaney were friends, and both attended The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York, NY. In the interview the two women recount their time living and working in New York City and discuss their lifelong friendship. Louise also speaks about some the acting and directing she did after moving to Davidson, NC.

Frances Chaney was born Fanya Lipetz in Odessa, Russian Empire in 1915. She later moved to New York City and worked as a professional actor. Louise McMichael Martin was born in Georgia in 1912 and as a young adult moved to New York City to pursue acting. Louise married David Grier Martin in 1935 and move to Davidson, NC where he worked as treasurer of Davidson College. In 1958 David became the 13th president of Davidson College.
