In this interview, Carol Connor Willingham, class of 1977, discusses why she chose to attend Davidson College, her experiences with professors Charlie Ratliff (and his wife Mary Virginia Ratliff), Louise Nelson, Donald Kimmel, Jr., Robert Avinger, Jr. (and his wife Jane Avinger), and what it was like to attend Davidson College as part of the first class of freshman women. She comments on dating at Davidson, and reactions to her engagement to Ed Willingham, which occurred while she was a student at Davidson College. She discusses her relationship to Connor Eating House, which is named after her. She also talks about why she decided to major in Economics and her career as a stockbroker and a teacher’s assistant. She mentions fellow student Page Royster, Davidson College President Sam Spencer, French actor Marcel Marceau, Leland Park, Malcolm Parton, Meg Kimmel, Susan and Tony Abbott by name. This interview was conducted over Zoom. The interviewers, Sophie Wolf and Laura Auberry, were both on the Davidson College Campus, and Carol Connor Willingham was located in Isle of Palms, South Carolina. The interview was conducted as part of an Associated Colleges of the South (ACS) grant-funded course led by Dr. Rose Stremlau.
