Scope and Contents

Oral history interview with Vicki Switzer member of the Davidson College class of 1974. The following is an interview conducted by Davidson students, Mimi Schrimsher and Emily Rankin, and narrated by Dr. Vicki Switzer. Dr. Switzer was the first woman to officially enroll at Davidson College. Dr. Switzer transferred to Davidson her junior year after completing two years at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. She graduated from Davidson in 1974 with a bachelor's degree in psychology. Dr. Switzer discusses her experiences as the first female to officially enroll at Davidson, the expectations of that position, and the overall experience of her cohort of female classmates as being the first group of permanent female students at Davidson. The interview was conducted as part of an Associated Colleges of the South (ACS) grant-funded course led by Dr. Rose Stremlau.
