The Commission on Coeducation was organized in 1969 to provide recommendations concerning coeducation at Davidson College to the faculty/Board of Trustees. The Commission arrived at its recommedations by means of dialogue with the experience of members of the Commission; dialogue with the experience of the students, faculty and administration at Davidson; commication by means of questionnaires; participation in open meetings and through correspondence with guests invited to closed meetings; data from other colleges; visits to other colleges; visits by representatives from colleges and other institutions; and interviews with representatives from the Academy for Educational Development. The Commission recommended that Davidson become coeducational and that the enrollment become 1500 and that a 3:2 men to women ration be the minimum acceptable. A variety of other recommendations related to coeducation were made at the same time, i.e., establishing women's living facilties, etc. Additional materials about the Commission can be found in President Spencer's file and in the College Communications Publicity Files RG 5/7.3b. The latter files contain extensive correspondence of the Commission.
