Scope and Contents

Initially minutes of the Faculty Executive Committee were included within the ledger of Faculty Meeting minutes (RG 2/3.2). In the fall of 1921, the minutes began to be housed separately. This collection contains the official minutes of the executive committee, background documents presented to committee, correspondence, and annual reports. Included within background documents are reports of other faculty committees. Areas covered by Executive Committee include transcripts, student restrictions, academic probation and the constitution of the faculty.

Biographical / Historical

The Executive Committee is the major coordinating unit of the Faculty. The committee is composed of the President, the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty, the Vice President of Student Life and Dean of Students, the Vice Chair of the Faculty pro tem, adn six teaching members of the Faculty elected by divisions and at large. The President serves as Chair and the Vice Chair of the Faculty pro tem as Coordinator and Secretary. Its duties have included (1) preparing agenda for faculty meetings, (2) referring matters to appropriate committees, (3) collecting and reviewing reports from elective committees for transmission to the faculty, (4) stimulating long-range planning in those matters pertinent to the task of faculty committees, (5) acting for the faculty when immediate action is necessary and a special meeting of the Faculty is inexpedient, (6) making itself available upon request to advise on the selection of major college administrative officials (7) ruling on question of interpretation of the Faculty constitution, and (8) determining in consultation with the Senate of the Student Governement Association academic calendars.
