Biographical / Historical
The Volunteer Band began under the auspices of the YMCA. It was an organization for students interested in foreign mission work. There is a photograph and membership list in the 1908 student yearbook and the club is mentioned in the college catalogs and student handbooks from 1910 to 1942. The club appears to have become less active in the 1930s and for the 1930-1931 academic year, the club joined with the Ministerial Band. The club sponsored speakers, carried on correspondence with foreign missionaries and sponsored projects to assist foreign missions.
