Scope and Contents

From the Series:

The Davidson News Leader was a newspaper published biweekly from October 2, 1945, until July 27, 1946. The purpose was to “serve the community more effectually and completely than The Red and White could do.” The News Leader changed names after the September 6, 1946 issue to the Twin City Leader. Articles mainly covered sports, college news, high school news, church news, and town news. One interesting article from November 27, 1945, was “All this for the 1600 citizens of Davidson,” and it detailed the college, libraries, grocery stores, schools, miscellaneous stores, and newspapers in town. Another interesting article concerned the new mayor elected in January of 1946. A serial that started in March of 1946 was called the “Jack Spruce Tales,” and it ran for three issues.
