 File — Box: 1, Folder: 10

Scope and Contents

From the Series:

The North Star was published every two weeks by North Mecklenburg High School from January 1956 until April 11, 1958. It covered sports, social news, and school news from North Mecklenburg High School.

One series in the first several issues was called “My Life,” and was about the life of an exchange student from Germany. Another popular series was called “What would you do with ____?” It featured a different thing each week and had student responses; some interesting things were a goby, an agouti, a teetotum, a psychopathy, and a kinkajou.

Some other interesting happenings were a trip to Washington, D.C., in 1946, the junior class play in November of 1946, polio vaccines, college day in 1957, the fall festival in 1957, Butch Cochrane winning a trip to Europe in 1958, and the seniors leaving for a trip to Afghanistan in April of 1958.
