Community

 Series

Scope and Contents

Community was published semi-monthly for the towns of Davidson and Cornelius from March 21, 1947, until June 5, 1947. It initially described itself as “frankly an experiment,” and its purpose was to “print the news; promote the religious, civic, and social life; and to furnish a medium where local businessman may inform the public of their merchandise and the public may see what local merchants have for sale.” One important issue Community covered was the closing of the Davidson Cotton Mill in April of 1947. Another important issue was the questions about legalizing liquor stores in the county.
