Scope and Contents
The collection contains biographical and family information, correspondence, notebooks, printed material, business information, memorabilia, photographs, and information pertaining to Mr. Davidson's bequest to Davidson College. The biographical information includes a grade report from Finley High School in Lenoir, NC, biographies of Mr. Davidson, and information about his family history. The correspondence contains both personal and business information from family members, from Davidson College, business associates, and friends. The notebooks are from his time as a Davidson College student, and contain class notes and excercises for Latin, Greek, Physics, Political Economy, Logic, and New testament. There is information from his years as a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, including correspondence, a petition against the recognition of the Soviet Union, programs, and membership lists. Business information includes paid bills, solicitations for donations, receipts for contributions, correspondence, and information about his rental property, including leases and receipts. The printed material contains information about Mr. Davidson's family, including his father, A.B. Davidson and sisters Blandia and Sallie Davidson. There is information about the Mecklenburg Monument Association, various newspaper articles, atlases from Mr. Davidson's estate, a family Bible which contains names of family members, a 1932 Davidson College yearbook, a 1931 West Charlotte High School yearbook, a book "the Picturesque World," and Greek textbook. The memorabilia contains blank calendars and a game of cards. There are photographs of Mr. Davidson and his family and friends. There are two oversize folders. The first contains a passport, a copy of the petition against the recognition of the Soviet Union, and a photograph of Mr. Davidson. The other folder contains maps of Mr. Davidson's property (Mapstand C-5). There is also a map of the Davidson- Springs property and Trade and Tryon streets in Charlotte, 1925, and blueprints for the Store building of Mr. Davidson and R.A. Childs, 1944 (Mapstand A-20). There is an oversized scrapbook which contains family photographs, and newspaper articles about the Davidson family, Sons of the American Revolution, and Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence. The information about the bequest of Mr. Davidson is restricted. These files contain information about the property which was given to Davidson College after Mr. Davidson's death in 1944.

Biographical / Historical
Edward Lee Baxter Davidson was a member of the Davidson College class of 1881. He became a real estate dealer in Charlotte, NC, and shared ownership of some property with R.A. Childs. He was a generous donor to Davidson College. The faculty room in the Chambers Building on the Davidson College campus is named for him.
