Scope and Contents
This interview was conducted virtually by Grace Payne and Sophia Nissler, senior students at Davidson College. James (Jim) Pepper grew up in Asheville, North Carolina before attending Davidson College, graduating in 1965, and going on to work as a financier and HIV/AIDS activist in New York City. The interview covered topics such as Pepper’s identity as a gay man and how this influenced his life both as a Davidson student and beyond. The interview was conducted as part of an Associated Colleges of the South (ACS) grant-funded course led by Dr. Rose Stremlau.
