Scope and Contents

This is oral history interview part 5 of 6. Irving Bienstock was born in Dortmund, Germany in 1926. Mr. Bienstock was persecuted by the Nazis and fled to the United States. At the time of the interview, Mr. Bienstock resided in Charlotte, NC where he volunteered with the Butterfly Project to educate children about the Holocaust. In this interview, Irving Bienstock speaks on his relationship with Gertrude Wijsmuller, his time in an orphanage in Amsterdam, and his immigration to the United States. Funded by the Justice, Equality, Community Grant, the interview took place remotely via Zoom with Irving Bienstock, Dana Kapustin, Jonah Pesikoff, and Olivia Harper on June 10, 2020.
