Dr. Spencer served as president of Davidson College from 1968-1983. The interview focuses on his two month study in Germany in the summer of 1981

Interview of Dr. Samuel Reid Spencer, Jr. ‘40 by John P. Scherer (Class of 1989) as part of his senior project for the history department. Spencer describes the Vietnam War issue on Davidson’s campus through the late 1960s and early 1970s. Spencer discusses his presidency, coeducation, integration, activism, and compulsory ROTC and vespers and chapel attendance.

Oral history interview with Terry Knox Ramseur, Davidson College class of 1981. Ramseur discusses being a first generation female college student, building community on campus, the support of Davidson's black community--particularly for black students, spending a year at Howard University, and gives advice for current Davidson College students. Theo Powell shares his experience attending Davidson College in the late-60s while majoring in mathematics. He describes his upbringing in Pennsylvania, dating life at Davidson prior to co-education, and his on-going career in medicine. This interview was conducted as part of the Stories Yet to be Told grant.

Oral history interview conducted with Theodore Roosevelt Wilson. Wilson discusses growing up in Davidson, the church life, farming in the area, schooling, social gatherings, and how those have changed over time. During the interview Wilson also describes where roads used to be, where houses were moved, the location of old school buildings, and stores all on the west side of Davidson. He also spends some time detailing his family tree and reflects on family ties.

This oral history collection explores the history of Latinx students at Davidson College and includes both the work of Dr. Jane Mangan's spring 2019 HIS 259 course and student workers who collected and transcribed oral histories of Davidson alumni who identify as Hispanic, Latino or Latinx.

The Davidson College Community-Based sub-group consists of oral histories and interviews that explore the history and culture of the Town of Davidson and other local communities. The sub-group contains interviews with long-time Davidson residents, select college faculty and staff, alumni/ae who called the area home, and representatives from community organizations.
